From Pat Brown, President of London Writers Society, 2011-2012.
Welcome back, everyone, to the 2011-2012 London Writers Society. We’ve had some losses. Buddy Young accepted a teaching position at Simon Fraser University in B.C. He will be missed. But we have an enthusiastic and dedicated executive committee in place to turn this into a great year for everyone.
Our next general meeting is Thursday, September 15, at the Landon Library in Wortley Village, beginning at 7 p.m.
For those not familiar with me, I am the author of twelve novels. All but three are contemporary police procedurals or suspense. Mostly set in Los Angeles. Lately, I have begun writing historical fiction, some set in Los Angeles, others set in New York City in the late 19th century. I have been published since 2005 and writing since I was in public school, and no, I won’t say when that was.
Our new executive is in place, with the exception of a secretary. This is the London Writers Society executive as of July 21:
- President – Pat Brown
- Vice President – Erin Moxam
- Treasurer – Helga Ruppe
- Secretary – To be elected at the general meeting, September 15
- Webmaster – Richard Nagel
We have several exciting ideas for upcoming meetings and field trips, as well as some other ideas about events London Writers Society members might be interested in. Some ideas thrown out have been: attending nearby writing conferences, having a weekend writing workshop where there could be craft workshops, discussions on the business of publishing, especially self-publishing and e-publishing. A tour of the London police station is in the works, and of course, we hope to bring in guest speakers.
All ideas are welcome, and we hope every member of the London Writers Society will join us in making this a great year.
